Sir Callum McCarthy’s Gleneagles speech at which he said “My contention is that we have a system which serves neither the producer of the services nor the consumer of the services. It is doubtful whether it serves the intermediary either” fired the starting gun for one of the most fundamental financial services reviews in recent times. The review’s focus on distribution sector sustainability, reputation, consumers access to products, regulatory obstacles and of course incentives mean that many financial services professionals have a major and in some cases business critical interest in the outcome of this review.
The June release of the FSA’s discussion paper has sparked much industry discussion not least around the controversial fees vs. commission debate. This Cicero Forum conference has been designed to bring together product manufacturers, distributors and consumer representatives with policymakers, regulators and legislators to debate the way forward and send clear messages of how the industry may develop in the future.
